T.C. Maddison Memorial
15 May 2024

Saxilby Golf Society visited the picturesque parkland course of Radcliffe on Trent for the annual T.C. Maddison Memorial Trophy.

Fortunately the heavy rain and thunderstorms that were forecast stayed away and an enjoyable days golf was enjoyed by the 25 Members present.

The Society welcomed Andrew Doe MD of John. J. Doe& Sons who kindly sponsored the event he was joined by Andrew Pickering who was visiting from Cumbria. Andrew will be remembered for his cricketing exploits for Saxilby in the late 70’s and early 80’s when Saxilby were in the high echelons of Lincolnshire cricket.

The course was in excellent condition but the rough proved a bit severe for some. However this didn’t cause a problem to the eventual winner. Neil Houghton recently returned from warm weather training in Egypt produced an superb round of 40 points. Andy Ecelson who it was his first visit to Ratcliffe compiled a steady round of golf to take the runners up spot with 36 points. With Paul Stafford [L.G.C. Vice captain] taking the final podium spot with 35 points and another polished performance. Harvey Benson continued his early season form to finish 4th after his win at Forest Pines.

Mr Pickering won the guests prize with 37 points. With the nearest pins going to Gary Benson, David Thorpe, David Beech and Clive Dixon whilst Benson and Beech converted to two balls along with Keith Hardy who got a 2 on the long 8th.

Fines Master Graham Flint once again had sharpened his pencil for the fines before Captain John Brogan handed over the prizes to the days successful players.

The July fixture sees a return visit to Wheatley Golf Club for President’s Day on Monday 24thJune. We would like to thank VTF Ltd  who are sponsoring the day.

We thank Steve and Pete for supporting the Society and Prostrate Cancer.
