Captain's Day

Hope you have recovered from the Captain’s Presentations and got the prize your golfing exploits deserved on the day.
I must take this opportunity in thanking Captain Clive for an excellent Captain’s Day with plenty of laughs on the day. I hope he enjoyed the day like I think we all did.
The course was in superb condition and the welcome and service we received today was first class.
I must also thank the Society’s Official Photographer Nick McDonald who took something like 380 pictures throughout the day. Also the Chairman who accompanied Nick obviously wanting to learn from Saxilby’s top snapper in the hope of one day winning a Skellingthorpe Camera Club photo of the month.
I will pass on some of the photos on when Nick’s processed them.
Regarding the golf we saw some excellent scores with the final outcome not decided till the final putt. The top four players were separated by just one point with both Jake[39] and Harvey Benson[39] rueing taking sixes on the last hole. Vice Captain John[39] also being edged out coming home in 16 points having scored 23 on the front nine. So it was left to another man who went out with 23 points but managed 17 on the back nine for 40 points and the winner of Captain’s Day 2023 Martyn Lynes. Here we were thinking Sue must have been coaching Martyn and not the other way round.
Nearest the pins went the way of David Thorpe ,Brian Giles [2], Ernie Dyson and the nearest in 3 on the 18th Jonathon Sankey. The only 2 balls of the day went to Jonathon and Terry Atkinson.
So another great Society Day enjoyed by the 28 Members present.
A little wait for our next Fixture when we return to Grimsby Golf Club on Friday 25th August when the Shaw/Brown Trophy is awaiting the winner.
