President's Day

Wheatley Golf Club was the setting for President’s Day and Saxilby Golf Society’s latest adventure.
On one of the warmest days of the year the course was in pristine condition but the pin positions and the speed of the greens led to many three putts.
Our thanks go to Sue Lynes MD of the Catering Saint who sponsored the day. It was also nice for Sue to join us for the day. Who knows another year she might even play. Don’t know what Martyn would think of that.
The scoring reflected the difficulties on the greens with the eventual winner Jim Welch the only player playing under his handicap. Jim’s excellent score of 40 points giving him his first Society win by 5 points. Steve Leachman in only his second Society match came second with 35 points while the final place on the podium went to Jonathan Sankey who edge out Neil Houghton on card countback both scoring 34 points.
Wheatley provide some of the toughest par 3’s in the area and this was proved with no two balls being achieved on the day. Nearest the pins came the way of Captain C.P.F. Dixon [2], Martyn Lynes, Steve Leachman and Jonathon Sankey.
Following the meal Lee Hayward stepped in as Fines Master with the Chairman Graham Flint absent due to having a new hip fitted. We look forward to welcoming Graham back on the fairways in August. Before the Captain presented the days prizes to the successful players. President Mr Alf Shaw presented Sue with a bottle of her favourite tipple and thanked her for sponsorship of the day.
The July fixture sees a return to Stanton on the Wolds Golf Club which is the venue for Captain’s Day. This takes place on Monday 17th July with a 11am tee time.
I'm sure Clive will have a few surprises on the day and i’m sure a fun filled day lays ahead for the Society.
