How we were blessed with the weather for last night’s Members Cup Sponsored by Just Audi VW] at the Lincoln Golf Club.
After what seemed endless weeks of wet weather the course was in excellent condition. With 19 scores from the 26 members present of over 30 points conditions were favourable for big scores.
How nice it was to see one of the founder Members who came out on top. Geoff Rippon claimed only his second Society victory in 33 years with an outstanding score of 44 points. In fact Geoff’s previous win was in the same competition at the L.G.C. in 2014. Geoff’s score equalled the two previous record scores for a Society event. Terry Maddison in the Secretary’s Trophy at Ashby Decoy in 2001 and David Thorpe in the Treasurers Trophy at Lincoln in 2016 also achieved a 44 point haul.
Secretary Keith Hardy took runners up spot with 41 points [23 back nine] while Terry Atkinson continued his excellent form with 40 points to take third spot.
Due to the generosity of sponsors Just Audi VW and DM Golf prizes were given to the top eight. Just for the record 4th Jonathon Sankey 38, 5th David Thorpe 37[18bn] 6th Jim Welch 37, 7th Gary Benson 36, 8th Michael Billson 35.
Two balls came the way of Michael Billson, Neil Houghton and Alan Maddison all achieved on the 12th hole. Nearest the pin prizes went the way of Welch, Billson, Rippon and Thorpe.
The players then retreated to the Anglers Hotel for a buffet and the presentations and fines. With Captain CPF Dixon once again on fine form.
Many thanks to Wayne for providing the buffet and Charlotte and Fran for serving our needs of liquid refreshment.
So another good Members Cup and we now turn our attentions to June’s fixture. This will be President’s Day at Wheatley Golf Club on Friday 23rd June. We are indebted to The Catering Saint and MD Sue Lynes for sponsoring the competition.
