Shaw/Brown Trophy
26 August 2021

A good turn out of Members for the re-arranged Society fixture at Blankney Golf Club were treated to a hearty breakfast before teeing off in pursuit of the Shaw/Brown Trophy.

With a swirling wind conditions were tough on Blankney’s  parkland course with the greens being a problem for many players.

It was certainly a case of rolling back the years at the conclusion of play with Treasurer John Reed galloping to victory. His 34 point haul giving him his first place win since winning the Treasurers Trophy at Cotgrave GC in September 2013.

You have to go back to 2009 for the last time Ray Caines had a podium finish when winning the Shaw/Brown at  Spalding. Ray rolled back the years to take the runners up spot with 33 points[19BN] to edge out Neil Houghton also 33 points [17BN] while Keith Hardy also 33 points [14BN] came fourth.

Nearest the pins were registered on the 7th Andy Ecelson, 10th Neil Houghton, 13th Clive Dixon and 16th Terry Atkinson. With the greens proving tricky no two balls were achieved.

Chairman Flint presided over the fines before Captain Rippon was on hand to present the prizes to the days successful golfers on what was another enjoyable Society trip.

The Society are next in action on Friday 10th September when they make a first ever visit to Phoenix Golf Club in South Yorkshire tee off is at 11am.
