Wheatley

Presidents Day
11 June 2021

Saxilby Golf Society made a return to Wheatley Golf Club for the first time since 2012 for the Annual President’s Day.

The Members and Guests who were present were welcomed for the traditional Coffee&Bacon rolls before teeing up in pursuit of the President’s Prize. The course was in immaculate condition  but proved to be a severe test with the speed of the greens testing everyone. Head greenkeeper Martyn Hayward being the father of Lee [Society stalwart] had placed some intriguing pin positions.

On occasions like this conditions usually favour the lower handicaps but not on this occasion. With only three members scoring over 30 points. The three playing together spurred each other on  and at the conclusion of play new Member Michael Billson with 34 points and a par on the last edged out the revitalised Ernie Dyson by one point. This was  a superb effort from Ernie on his comeback from injury. Gary Lamb took third place to continue his early season form.

Behind we had four players on 29 points and three on 27 but it was Billson who was victorious.

Lincoln Golf Clubs Head Greenkeeper Adrian Kitchenson won the guests prize and also had the satisfaction of 2 nearest the pins  a feat also going the way of Michael Thorpe, Graham Flint and  Billson. The five par threes proved extremely difficult and no two balls were recorded.

Captain Geoff Rippon presented the prizes in the absence of President Alf Shaw  who will hopefully have recovered from injury to return for Captains Day at Boston Golf Club on Monday 12th July.
