Secretarys Trophy
16 September 2022
A return to the parkland course of Phoenix Golf Club at Rotherham greeted a healthy turn out of Members for Saxilby Golf Societies latest fixture.
With a good mixture of holes scoring was expected to be high and so it proved. On such parkland courses position play off the tee is the order of the day.
It is always good to see some of our more Senior gentlemen at the top end of the leader board and even more so when one of the Society’s octogenarians takes the honours. A superb round of golf from Ernie Dyson saw him take the Secretary’s Trophy with 42 points of which 24 came on the front nine. This was Ernie’s first win since 2018 when he achieved back to back victories at Torksey and Kenwick Park. Another society stalwart and none other than Treasurer John Reed, who pushed Ernie all the way with 41 points, was so close to victory. Ian Waite once again showed his consistency to take the final podium finish with 38 points.
Scoring on the whole was very good with 11 players scoring over 30 points.
The team event for the best three ball went the way of Graham Flint, Simon Hayes and John Reed. With nearest pins going the way of Keith Hardy [2] Geoff Rippon and Bob Marsh. Rippon converted his nearest pin into a two ball while Jonathon Sankey managed 2 two balls in his round.
After the after match meal Captain Neil Houghton gave us another classic repartee before handing the prizes to the days successful players.
The October fixture sees the Annual John Armstrong Memorial Trophy at the Lincoln Golf Club on Friday 14th .
