Captains Day
18 July 2022
One of the highlights of the Saxilby Golf Society season is the annual Captain’s Day and 2022 was no exception.
Captain Neil Houghton invited the Members to Worksop Golf Club home of Lee Westwood and host to the recent English Amateur Championships.
With the fixture having to be rearranged have previously scheduled for the hottest day of the year this time the weather was ideal.
Although the fairways were suffering from lack of rain the greens were in pristine condition. With plenty of run on the fairways it certainly helped those who have accuracy rather than distance off the tee. At the conclusion of play it was Bob Marsh who printed his name on the Captain’s Day Cup with an excellent 40 points with another Golden Oldie Ron Hersey a point behind on 39. Rob Wilson took third place with 37points on countback from Jake Benson this being Rob’s second successive podium finish.
The days nearest the pins went the way of Terry Atkinson, Jim Welch, Derek Linton and Jonathon Sankey with two balls going the way of Jake Benson, Linton and Sankey. While the team prize went to Ernie Dyson, Rob Wilson and Michael Billson.
Captain Houghton gave his customary speech before handing out the prizes to all the days competitors. Neil had also arranged a prize draw with the money raised going to his nominated Charity for the season which this year is the Lincolnshire & Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance. The total raised on the day was £145 and this will be added to the running total for the season.
Many thanks have to be given to Neil for providing a memorable Captain’s Day with so much time and effort in getting Businesses and Individuals to sponsor prizes for the day.
