What a start to Saxilby Golf Society’s 2022 season.
Sunshine greeted the healthy turn out of Members on there visit to Doncaster Golf Club.
With the Treasurers Trophy up for grabs the Society were appreciative of JMR Thoroughbred Racing who sponsored the days prizes.
With a few non runners in the shape of Ray Caines, Ron Hersey and Gary Lamb twenty four runners made it to the first tee.
Captain Neil Houghton was first out the stalls with the opening tee shot followed by Vice Captain Clive Dixon, Immediate past Captain Geoff Rippon and Treasurer John Reed.
The going was good to firm with many obstacles facing the six four balls with some of the field out for the first time in 2022.
When it came to the run in seven players were in contention and it took a photo finish to determine the winner.
Alan Maddison came up on the rails to enter the winners enclosure for the first time with 35 points and an excellent back nine of 21 points. John Brogan with an inferior back nine came second also with 35 points. Vice Captain Dixon claimed third place with 34 points while Jonathon Sankey and Keith Hardy had to settle for 4th and 5th place both also reaching the winning post on 34 points. Alf Shaw and Jim Welch fell at the last hurdle to come in with 32 points.
Nearest the pins came the way of Martyn Lynes, David Thorpe, John Brogan and Alan Maddison. While Maddison and Brogan continued with there day of dominance in having the best fourball score of the day with the aid of Michael Thorpe and Alf Shaw.
Once the Society had all weighed in and after a meal in the Clubhouse. Graham Flint handed out the fines before Captain Houghton gave an excellent opening speech before handing the prizes out to the days successful players.

The Society’s April Fixture sees the Society make the short journey to Rufford Park Golf Club on Tuesday 19th April when they will be playing for the T.C.Maddison Memorial Trophy.
